Restoran Sungai Jelok @ Kajang, Selangor

A couple of months back, I visited a schoolmate in Kajang and it was then that I was introduced to this restaurant. Based on my last trip, I was impressed with the food here and having had some guests this evening, I decided to bring them over.

The Restaurant Located Along Jalan Sungai Jelok

Both Indoor And Outdoor Seating Available

Cutlery
Restoran Sungai Jelok is located along Jalan Sungai Jelok, Kajang and it is hard to miss as it's located right by the road. Such a huge set up that it occupies an entire lot with both indoor and outdoor seating areas. Food options are very much similar to any other Chinese seafood restaurants. There wasn't a menu available hence we ordered based on our preferences. Maybe they might have been one inside but since we had already known what we wanted to have, none of us insisted on seeing one.

Sambal Petai
Their Sambal Petai was one dish that I totally loved. Not only did they use fresh stinky beans and  Belacan, they had also added lot's of anchovies and that gave it a delicious crunch. Very generous with the ingredients as well. My rating for this dish shall be 10/10.

Kam Heong Clams
Their Kam Heong Clams was a fantastic dish. Large clams were used and as you can see, there was an overload of sauces. Tasted extremely good and this for sure is another dish that I would recommend here. As for me, this deserves a perfect 10/10.

Butter Prawns
Their Butter Prawns were definitely good as well. The prawns were slit at the back to allow the flavours to seep in and the flesh was sweet and nice. They were quite generous with the butter and eggs as well. Taste wise, it was definitely good and I shall give this 9/10.

Steamed Fish with Chili Paste
Steamed Fish with Chilli Paste (Cheong Cheng) was very much the southern style of preparation. In fact, in northern Peninsular Malaysia, this dish is prepared in similar fashion. Compared to the one that we get in the central region, this one was sweeter, was a little more coarse and had lard in it. The overall texture of the shrimp paste is a little dry as well. Differences in style of preparation aside, it did taste good and different from the norms for me. I would rate this at 8/10.

Our Bill
The food at this restaurant was surely good. Out of the four dishes that we had, their Kam Heong Clams and Sambal Petai were two dishes that stood out. Price wise, it isn't small town pricing but it was worth it. Definitely a good Chinese Restaurant to visit in Kajang.
