Restoran Lucky Day @ Kajang, Selangor

While taking a drive last night looking for new eateries to explore, we discovered this Food Court that is located in Taman Kajang Prima. It seems to have been around for a number of years now and the place looked crowded. Since the vital signs seemed good (based on the crowd there), we decided to give the place a try.

The Food Court in Taman Kajang Prima
This place is easily noticeable when you're driving along the main road even before turning in to this Taman. Such a huge food court and there would easily be around 40 stalls. A huge indoor and open air seating area is available and right beside that open air seating, you'd see a large plot of land that is a dedicated parking lot for this food court. Clearly this place is managed by a team of experts who know their stuff. This food court is open from 6 am and goes on till 2 am daily. In the morning, there's a different set of stalls and operators and come 5 pm, the evening shift arrives and this entry is based on the evening shift that operates till 2 am. We had a large group of friends this evening and that makes it even more exciting as we get to try more dishes.

Char Kuey Teow @ RM 6.00
The first food stall that we tried was the Char Kuey Teow stall. Manned by a gentleman from Penang, his style of frying was quite similar to the one that we get in Penang. For RM 6.00 , the portion was satisfying and it did taste good. Not only was he generous with the cockles, he was also quite generous with the eggs. Taste wise, I would give this 8/10.

Fish Head Noodles @ RM 9.00
I wonder what the relationship between Fish Head Noodles and Kajang town is but this dish seems to be omnipresent here. Not only that, it is so good taste wise. I have tried this dish in a number of establishments in Kajang and not a single one let me down. Similarly, this one too was extremely good. Right from the broth, the fish and other ingredients, not only did they meet my expectations, they exceeded it. Definitely a very good bowl of Fish Head Noodles and I would give this 9/10.

Fish Ball Soup @ RM 5.30
This stall is run by a Thai couple and their specialty is their Fish Balls, Fish Cake and Fuchok. All three items are made by them. Slightly pricey, but they were totally worth it. The Fish Cake and Fish Balls were so soft and fresh. Their Fuchok was excellent too. One need not go for their noodles and may opt to have just these like we did tonight. Highly recommended and I would give this 9/10 as well.

Ikan Bakar Stall

Grilled Stingray @ RM 24.00
This Grilled Fish stall is located outside the food court, in a quiet corner next to a Satay stall. She had a variety of fish but something didn't quite seem right. Even when we were checking the fish out, it seemed to have had a stale smell. On enquiring, she mentioned that it is normal as it is all inside a Styrofoam box. Having trusted her, we left after placing our orders. When the dish was served, just as we had suspected earlier, the stingray was stale. In fact, it was so bad that it already had a very funny taste. We called her and asked her again, of course to which she denied. I then stood up and asked her if she would like to eat her fish and that was when she said, "It's okay. I will give you back RM 7 as a discount" and walked away. Come on, that is just not acceptable. So please take note dear friends. Always check the fish prior to ordering and don't become victims like us.

Wantan Mee @ RM 5.50

Delicious Dumplings
There's another stall selling Wantan Mee and we had ordered a plate as well. The large one was priced at RM 5.50 and it came with some dumplings in clear soup. The noodles were very good. Beyond that, I was even more impressed with the Char Siew. It had such a lovely texture that one would fall in love with it right away. Not only did they add Char Siew, they had also topped this with some minced pork. This is the first time that I am coming across Wantan Mee that comes with Char Siew and minced pork. Seemed like a hybrid between Kolo and Konloh Mee but taste wise it was very impressive. I would give this dish 9/10. The dumplings were very good too. Soft, chewy and juicy dumplings made just right. Again one that deserves 9/10 as well.

Salt Baked Chicken @ RM 8.00

Braised Eggs @ RM 1.00
The Salt Baked Chicken stall is located on the far right and he has a good variety to offer right from pork to chicken. The above plate of Salt Baked Chicken was priced at RM 8.00 and the Braised Eggs were sold at RM 1.00 each. The Salt Baked Chicken was tender, juicy and lean and that blend of sweet soy sauce went along very well. Similarly, the braised eggs were decent. I would rate this preparation at 8/10.

Variety Of Dim Sum

There's also a Dim Sum stall that has a wide variety of dumplings. We had randomly tried them and they were good. Prices wise, it was 6 dumplings for RM 7.20 . Specifically one that stood out was the Yam Dim Sum which is the purple coloured one. The rest were not bad too. If I were to rate these, I'd give them 8/10.

This food court does offer a wide variety of dishes at reasonable prices. Most of the dishes that we tried this evening met or exceeded our expectations except for the Grilled Stingray which turned out to be stale. Otherwise, an excellent place for dinner in Kajang.
