Restoran Hen Wong Lo @ Tanjung Malim, Perak

This restaurant is quite unique as it has two operators in the same building, both operating under different names. Restaurant Ho Yee Kee does the drinks and breakfast business while Restaurant Hen Wong Lo does the usual Chinese kitchen and operates from 11.00 am to 11.00 pm daily. This entry would be specifically focusing on Restaurant Hen Wong Lo and their food offerings. This all day restaurant is a new addition and has only been open now for the past one month.

Waiting For The Orders To Be Taken
This restaurant is located along the same row of shops as the famous Garden Seafood Restaurant. This is located on the other end of the row. When we were here, we were quite confused as to how to order but then the lady came up to us and assisted with the orders. We placed the food orders to one individual and drinks with the other operator.

Drinks Station

Char Kuey Teow Stall also available
Besides the breakfast items and the usual Chinese kitchen, there was also a stall selling Char Kuey Teow. She did have a number of customers too during the time that we were here. I was made to understand that she operates from early morning till around 3 pm. Maybe I would do another trip her to try her Char Kuey Teow.

Chinese Tea @ RM 0.50
The Chinese Tea came fairly quickly. They were charged at RM 0.50 each and we had to pay for them once they were served.

Bird Eye Chili

Garlic
They then provided us with the above Bird Eye Chili and Garlic, both look like they have been stored in the freezer for a very long time. Freshness surely wasn't there.

White Rice @ RM 0.80 per plate
This is definitely the restaurant that charges the lowest for a plate of White Rice in Tanjung Malim. Generally, it is priced around RM 1.20 to RM 1.50 per plate but here, it was just RM 0.80 per plate. The food items too came in about 15 minutes from the time of order.

Sizzling Tofu @ RM 8.00

Sizzling Tofu @ RM 8.00
The Sizzling Tofu preparation here was unique. I have never seen this kind of preparation before. It came with lots of egg, capsicum, pineapple and mushrooms besides the Tofu. Taste wise, it was very good and surely one of the best that I have tried. The sweetness from the pineapple has seeped well into the soy sauce making it sweet and salty, a marvelous combination. Price wise too, it is quite cheap when comparing the portions. I would rate this at 9.4/10 .

Kangkung Belacan @ RM 7.00

Kangkung Belacan @ RM 7.00
This dish too was well prepared. I like the way they have cooked it ensuring that the greens are not overcooked. The greens were still crispy and chewy when served and it came with a good amount of belacan at the base. For RM 7.00, the portion was once again lavish. I would rate this at 8.8/10 .

Sambal Petai @ RM 12.00

Sambal Petai @ RM 12.00
This Sambal Petai was again simply fantastic. I have never tasted this kind of taste before. It was sweet and spicy and gave a hint of Malay style of cooking being used here. The Petai's were very fresh and the entire dish was a treat for Petai lovers. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish and would rate it at 10/10 . Not to forget the price of RM 12.00 for this dish, which is definitely a good deal.

Butter Prawns @ RM 16.00

Butter Prawns @ RM 16.00
The Butter Prawns once again was a nicely done dish. Though they had not used the large prawns, the prawns used were still medium large and it was good. The preparation and batter used too was fantastic and they were not stingy with the butter used. For the price, it was definitely a worth it dish. I would rate this at 9/10 .

Steamed Ginger Fish @ RM 22.00

Steamed Ginger Fish @ RM 22.00

Steamed Ginger Fish @ RM 22.00
This is definitely the best Steamed Ginger Fish that I have tasted in Tanjung Malim. The taste was far superior than other restaurants here. For the price of RM 22.00, I must say that this is once again a very good deal. I would rate this fish at 9.8/10 .

On the whole, we were delighted with the food here. The service was good, the pricing was super good and the food was excellent. Definitely a place that we would be frequenting often.

  1. Those pineapple chunks added to the gravy for the sizzling tofu would have definitely given it the oomph! factor! Kudos to them for trying this out...lovely preparation of all the foods!

    1. You're absolutely right! That was a veryunique addition that brought about the taste in the dish. Unfortunately, this place has closed down due to local 'Chinese Vendor's' politics......Sad but true........
