Kedai Kopi Matahari @ Bandar Sri Damansara, Kuala Lumpur

Kedai Kopi Matahari is one of those day to day coffee shops which are commonly found in residential areas. My brother and I were returning back from Tanjung Malim and by the time we arrived in Kuala Lumpur, most of the Chinese restaurants were already closed and the only choice left would be Mc Donalds or the usual Mamaks. He was in the mood for Chinese food and I remembered coming to this shop around midnight sometime in January this year. hoping that it would still be open, we took a drive down.

A Number of Stalls Available

Limited But Decent Choices
We were delighted to see that even at 10.30 pm, a number of stalls were still open and there were quite a decent crowd of customers here even at this time.

Coca Cola @ RM 2.20
When we got our table, we placed our drinks orders and then started walking around looking at the variety available and to finally place our orders.

Lobak Stall

My Brother Decided on Lobak

A waiting Number Allocated To Us
There was a good spread of items available at the Lobak stall but they all seemed like those factory made ones and not the homemade items. All the items were priced at RM 1.10 each. He choose the items and then they provided us with a number to be placed on the table.

Order Finally Arrived

Sweet and Chili Dip Sauce
In less than 10 minutes, the items were served along with some dip sauce that has both the sweet sauce and chili sauce.

Fried Stuffed Tofu @ RM 1.10 each
The Stuffed Tofu, though dry, was nice. The fillings were lavish and I must say that we were impressed with this. Definitely a good preparation and fried to the right level. I would rate this at 9/10 .

Fried Stuffed Brinjals @ RM 1.10
The Stuffed Brinjals, though of a big portion, was a tad too oily and had a slight pungent oil smell to it. Not up to expectations. I would rate this at 6/10 .

Fried Sui Gau @ RM 1.10 each
The Fried Sui Gau was decent and came with a decent amount of fillings. The skin was slightly hard but the taste was good. I would rate this at 8/10 .

Fried Fu Chok @ RM 1.10
This was nice, the Fu Chok was crispy and crunchy. I would rate this at 9/10 .

Fish Balls in Soup @ RM 1.10 each

Fish Balls in Soup @ RM 1.10 each
Besides the fried items, he had also ordered the above Fish Balls which was served in a clear soup. Tho soup itself was nice, though not great, but still nice. I would rate the soup at 8/10. The Fish Balls however was also good but not as soft as the pure ones that you get at specialty restaurants. I would rate them at 8.5/10 .

Bak Kut Teh Stall

Bak Kut Teh Stall

Price List
This is just a simple Bak Kut Teh stall that is manned by two Burmese guys. All preparation is done by them. There is not much that is offered here just a simple bowl of BKT without the usual extras but that is good to satisfy a hungry stomach.  When I was here in January, it was only priced at RM 10 but now the price has gone up to RM 12.00 .

Bak Kut Teh @ RM 12.00

Bird Eye Chili

White Rice
Here, only White Rice is available and not the Onion Oil Rice or Yellow Rice that is commonly found in other Bak Kut Teh restaurants.

Some Mushroom

Lean Meat Cuts

Very Light Soup
As mentioned earlier, you get a very basic Bak Kut Teh here that is served in a light broth. There are no vegetables or Yau Char Kui that is served with the meal. Even in the broth, all you get is your preferred meat cuts and some button mushrooms. Do note that they do not serve those big bones and other spare parts here. It is either lean cuts or fatty cuts that is available. Overall, it is an okay meal specially at this hour of the day and was quite satisfying. I would rate this BKT at 6/10 .

This is just a simple neighbourhood restaurant. Perhaps, if you come earlier, then you have a number of other options that you could order from. Looking at their Foursquare reviews, it seems that they Thai Fried Rice stall is a good option but it is sad that they had already closed for the night. For a quick and simple meal, this is not a bad place to head to.
