Restoran Anuja @ Desa Amanpuri, Kuala Lumpur

Whenever we mention Restaurant Anuja, the thing that comes to our mind is the restaurant that is located opposite Pudu Raya but not many know that they have another three outlets sprawled around Kepong. This particular outlet in Desa Amanpuri is very special as unlike the other three which seem somewhat like a Mamak cum Indian fusion, this is presented as a pure Tamil restaurant with proper Banana Leaf meals and this year, it is celebrating it's silver anniversary. I was told that this restaurant serves more dishes compared to the other restaurants and it has two chefs, one from Tamil Nadu, India who holds a Diploma in Catering and the local chef is from Tanjung Malim, Perak .

Restaurant Anuja in Desa Amanpuri

Interior of the Restaurant

Interior of the Restaurat
For a restaurant that runs 24 hours a day, this is definitely very well maintained with good cleanliness levels. All the staffs behind the counters are from India and those serving the floor are mostly from Indonesia. Occupying a corner lot has given them the space advantage and it also keeps the restaurant cool as wind blows from all sides.

Teh O Ice @ RM 1.30
Their Teh O Ice was quite nice, although not the best that I had tried. I would rate this drink at 7.5/10 .

Sirap Bandung @ RM 1.60
The Sirap Bandung was a better choice between the two and I would rate it at 8.5/10 .

Chicken Briyani @ RM 12.00

Closer Look At The Dish
Their Chicken Briyani was quite good. Here the Chicken is cooked along with the Briyani but since we wanted drumstick and they did not have it in the Briyani dish, we opted for the Fried Chicken instead. It also comes with one full boiled egg, delicious Basmathi Rice, Acar,  free top ups of vegetables and Papadam. This is also served with Dhall as you can see from the photo below. The Acar was quite good and I would rate it at 8.5/10 . The Fried Chicken was also good but not outstanding. I would rate their Fried Chicken at 8.8/10 . Their Basmathi Rice however was excellent. It was so good that it could be eaten on it's own. Perhaps, if we had chosen to go with the original chicken served with the briyani rice, it may have been excellent. I would rate their Briyani Rice at 9.7/10 .

Dhall...Goes With The Briyani
Their Dhall was very good. In fact, it was so delicious that we ended up asking them for more and literally drank the curry off the saucer. It was so aromatic, well flavoured and slightly on the spicy side. Definitely an excellent preparation. I would rate this dish at 9.8/10 .

Basic Banana Leaf Meal @ RM 5.00
Their basic Banana Leaf meal comes with free flow of Rice and four very good vegetables. Also pickles, Papadam and the other usuals along with Rasam is served on the sides without any additional charges.

Cucumber in Vinegar
Their Cucumber in Vinegar was quite good and it was a pleasant feeling to see for once,  the cucumber served in an Indian restaurant was fresh. I would rate this dish at 8.2/10 .

Chinese Style Mixed Vegetables
This was very nicely done. It had Cauliflowers, Carrots and French Beans and was nicely done according to the Chinese style. I would rate this at 8.9/10 .

Radish Cooked With Dhall & Ghee
This vegetable was heavenly as it had all my favourites....radish, dhall and ghee. An exciting combination to have and prepared without a flaw. I would rate this dish at 9.5/10 .

Long Beans Stir Fried Tamil Style
A common Tamil dish made to look and taste wonderful. I just loved the preparation and the vegetables were really fresh. The beans were still crunchy and yet the gravy had permeated thoroughly. I would rate this dish at 9.3/10 .

My Helping with Mutton Curry
I would usually try at least three different curries when I go for Banana Leaf meals but today, I was completely hooked to their Mutton Curry and ended up just having that for the entire meal. The Mutton curry was so delicious. Filled with Mutton marrows and potato, the curry was wonderfully spiced and served piping hot. I was definitely in love with their Mutton Curry. I would rate this curry at 9.8/10 .

Aattu Kudal (Goat's Intestine) Perattal @  RM 5.50
Another wonderful preparation at this restaurant is their Aattu Kudal Perattal which is Goat's Intestine Curry. The intestines were carefully sliced and cooked to perfection. Even after cooking, the meat was very tender and a very strong flavour of spices with a bold body emanated out of the dish. Perfect! Nothing else to say. I would rate this dish at 10/10 .

Mutton Varuval @ RM 5.00
Another must try dish here that would not fail to impress you is their Mutton Varuval. They were extremely tender mutton chunks with thick flavoring and a very spicy aftertaste. It was so good that I am sure that it would be a taste to remember for a very long time. I strongly recommend this dish and would rate it at a perfect 10/10 .

Paruppu Rasam
Paruppu Rasam is Rasam cooked with Dhall. This comes complimentary with the Banana Leaf meal set. It was just above average. I would rate this at 6.5/10 . Have definitely tried better ones elsewhere.

Other Outlets
To sum my dining experience today, it was definitely worth the travel and a thoroughly satisfying meal. This outlet has definitely some fantastic food to offer and if you happen to be in the vicinity or would like to have a good Sunday lunch where you do not have to watch the calories, this is definitely a great place to head with the family.
