Penang One @ Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Restaurant Penang One has an interesting concept whereby it has brought about many of the famous Penang dishes under one roof. They have two outlets in the Klang Valley, the first one being in Bandar Puteri Puchong and the second outlet in Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara. Being closer to our home, we decided to visit the latter for dinner today.

Restaurant Penang One in Kota Damansara

Nice and Bright

My brother busy with his phone....as always...he he
It was a rainy evening and hence there were not too many customers here tonight. Located right opposite a major food court, they do have a good challenge to keep up to. The decoration in the restaurant was quite spartan and it had blown up photos of the original outlets of these 'showcased'dishes.

The Menu
The Menu here is very interesting. They have brought about a handful of dishes and pledged to make them exactly as they are to be found in these 'original' stalls in Penang. Each dish covers two full pages. The first page would have a narration of the stall and their specialty and the second page would be listing that particular food item and the add on options available. Besides having them in the menu, they also had these information playing on their TV on a repeated mode.

Watermelon Juice @ RM 5.80
The Watermelon Juice was quite diluted. Though the glass seems big, it was loaded with ice. I would only rate this drink at 7/10 .

Penang Coffee @ RM 3.30
The Penang Coffee was quite good, in fact very good. It tasted somewhat similar to the Ipoh White Coffee but this was slightly bitter. I would rate this drink at 9.6/10 .

Hokkien Mee @ RM 8.50
When I first read the name Hokkien Mee, I thought it was similar to our Fried Hokkien Noodles available here but after close observation, I realised that it was the Hokkien Style Prawn Mee. The dish was quite good and this is specially so because the prawn heads were nicely fried before adding them to the broth. They also had a decent amount of Chicken and sliced Squid and for once, a full boiled egg was served in this dish instead of the usual half. Unless specified, this dish comes with both Mee Hoon and Mee. I found this dish to be quite nice and would rate it at 9/10 .

Special Golden Dumpling @ RM 8.90

Closer Look At The Dumpling
The above Golden Dumpling was extremely good. It had a very rich filling and was beautifully done to perfection. Even the rice was not too oily and you do not need the sauces to have this dish, it is good to go on it's own. If you love Bak Chang, then this is a must try dish here. I would rate it at 9.7/10 .

Assam Laksa @ RM 8.50
The Assam Laksa was nice but it did not meet my expectations. The broth was not as thick as it should be and the amount of fish flakes were lesser than expected. This dish should come with a sting of sourness and spiciness and that was a lacking factor here. I would only rate this dish at 7.5/10 .

Yam Cake @ RM 5.50
Their Yam Cake preparation was really delicious. It was made perfectly well with the right amount of dry shrimps in the cake and had a coating of prawn floss simmered over it. An excellent preparation! I would rate this at 9.7/10 .

Duck Egg Char Koay Teow @ RM 10.90
This dish was the highlight of the evening. The CKT was perfectly done with the right amount of Wok Hei, although the portion was slightly small for me. There were a good amount of prawns and cockles in the dish. Of course, if you prefer more, there is an option for you to add on according to your preference. I would rate this dish at 9.8/10 .

Location Map & Contact Information
On the whole, it is indeed a great concept to bring all this good food under one roof. To be honest, I am not able to ascertain if the taste is the same as the original stall in Penang as I have not tried them out there but here under this roof, they definitely taste great. If you are looking for good authentic Penang food under one roof, just head to Penang One and I am sure that they would be able to satisfy your cravings.
