42 East Restaurant & Bar @ TTDI, Kuala Lumpur

It's Friday night and it's time to celebrate all the hard work put in throughout the week. Besides, my father and brother were also with me today and we decided to have some good meal along with some beers. We then decided to visit one of the watering holes in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail called 42 East Restaurant & Bar.

42 East Restaurant & Bar in TTDI, Kuala Lumpur

The Bar

Busy on a Friday night.
This bar is located along the same row as Sid's Pub and just a few doors away to Dukes & Duchess which I had visited the week before and have also written an entry on it. We arrived here at 8 pm and at that time, there were more diners than people who were drinking. They have a simple and nice design with large projector screens playing some sports channel from ASTRO. There was a row of dining tables and then another row of bar tables. The staffs were a mixture of locals and foreigners and they were generally swift. It seems that this is another neighbourhood joint that is favoured by the locals living in the neighbourhood. Unlike Dukes & Duchess, there were no expatriate guests here tonight. It seems that for some reason not discovered by me, they prefer the other watering holes along the same row. I went through the menu and it seems they have a signature meat platter here which is good to feed six people. I also glanced over some of the other tables and they seemed to be having the same platter and we too ordered the same.

42 East Signature Mixed Platter @ RM 156.00
After around 15 minutes, the food arrived and indeed it was huge. A single glance revealed that we would not be able to finish it as it was just the three of us. Nevertheless, we shall just have what we could and the balance can always be taken away. 15 minutes to prepare the above is definitely very efficient. Now time to get our hands messy.

Green Salad
The Green Salad was quite decent and they were fresh and nice. It only lacked some dressing and we had to dip in into the sauce. Otherwise, this was nice. I would rate the Salad at 8/10 .

BBQ Baby Pork Ribs
I know that the Guiness Pork Ribs is one of the famous dishes here but this one was the BBQ Baby Pork Ribs. We did not quite enjoy this here as the marination was just average. The meat was also overdone to the point that it was breaking into pieces fairly easily. We only partially ate this and left half of it. I would only rate this at 5/10 .

Pan Seared Salmon
The Salmon was very well prepared and it was really nice. Sad that there was only one piece and we had wished that there was more of this instead of the Pork Ribs. The fish had a crisp skin and yet, the juices of the fish was intact. It was really good and I would rate this at a 10/10 .

Calamari Fritters & French Fries
The Calamari Fritters were well done again and they were delicious. They did not have the usual foul taste when it is not done well. There was a decent amount of the Fritters in this platter and I would rate the Calamari Fritters at 9.5/10 . Besides this, there were a whole load of French Fries too. They fries were fried to crispness and they were good. The only setback with this was that towards the bottom of the Fries, it started becoming too salty and I think it had not been mixed well when the salt was added. Otherwise, it was nice and I would rate their fries at 7.5/10 .

Grilled Chicken Breast
There were two slices of Grilled Chicken Breast and this too was nice. The meat was tender and juicy but the marination was mild. Would have been better if the marination sauce used was thicker and that would have surely added a deeper flavour to this. Nevertheless, it was still nice and we enjoyed it. I would rate this at 7.9/10 .

Chipolata & Hungarian Sausages
There was only one slice of Hungarian Sausage in the platter and this must be due to the fact that it is quite expensive. Nevertheless, this platter itself is quite pricey and I believe that they could have added more of it. The Hungarian Sausage was really nice and I would rate it at 10/10 . There was another 5 pieces of Chipolata Sausage and this was only above average. It was not much to do with the preparation but more on the sausage itself. I would only rate this sausage at 6/10 . Would have been better if there were more of the previous than the latter.

Pulled Pork Nachos
There was also some decent amount of the above Pulled Pork Nachos and they were nice. It was loaded with Cheese and Mustard Sauce and was baked well. I would rate this at 7.8/10 . By the end of the meal, we managed to finish the entire platter except for the BBQ Pork Ribs and I feel that this platter is generally worth it for the price paid and location but certainly could be improved with all the recommendations mentioned above.

Ongoing Beer Promotions

3 Pint Kilkenney @ RM 45.00 (Happy Hours)

Kilkenny Beer

3 Pints Strongbow @ RM 65.00
Well, no visit to a bar is complete without having some beers. They had some decent Beer promotions and this outlet is also a member of Tiger FC. Their beer selections were limited to Tiger Beer, Carlsberg, Guiness Stout, Strongbow, Kilkenny and Paulaner. I had initially wanted to have Hoegarden but they did not have it and as such we went for a round of Kilkenny and then Strongbow. Kilkenney was going for 3 pints at RM 45.00 and Strongbow was going for RM 65.00 for 3 pints. I have tried Kilkenny many times before but this was the first time that I am trying Strongbow and it was nice. Tasted different from the usual beers that I usually have. Overall, we had a good night here and I must commend the manager Eric for doing a great job. He kept checking on the customers, striking conversations and getting their feedback. In fact we had asked him for some football scores as it was a game night and he took the effort of surfing the net and giving us the results. The way I look at it is not about having the score results but it was all about customer satisfaction and he was doing a great job by going the extra mile. Keep it up Eric!!! Food wise, there were some mixed comments but overall I think that they are doing a decent job. I would surely return to this place sometime soon.
