Curry Chee Cheong Fun @ Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya

Restoran Ah Sai is a typical Chinese Restaurant located in Damansara Perdana. The owner has rented out the space to a number of stalls that offer a variety of Chinese dishes at cheap prices. The cleanliness of the restaurant is a little bad and most of the tables are located on the parking bays surrounding this restaurant, as it is a corner unit. Well, nothing much to complain as this is common in Malaysia and we Malaysians are so used to such eateries that we never complain even when we sight a rat running along the gutters and drains. A number of my friends did recommend me to try the Curry Chee Cheong Fun at this place and that is the reason I am here tonight.

Sadly again, this little stall is stationed right along the drain and the cleanliness factor did not look pleasing. Nevertheless, since the recommendations were strong, I still went ahead.

The Curry Chee Cheong Fun Stall

Indonesian Lady Manning The Stall
The layout was pretty simple. The Chinese boss was just sitting outside and talking to his friends and it was run by this Indonesian lady. She was very efficient in her work and from what I see, did understand basic Chinese, at least relating to the items in this stall to get her going with Chinese speaking customers.

The Curry used for the Cheong Fun
They do not have the sweet sauce Cheong Fun here. It's basically Curry and I assumed that since they specialised in it, it should turn out to be pretty good. The Curry looked good at a glance but ultimately what matters is how it tastes. Ordering here is pretty simple. Just choose the items that you want and place them on a plate. She then picks up the items and boils them in soup, for those that need to be boiled and fries the items which needs to be fried. This is good as the fried items are done right in front of you and they do not end up being stale items fried earlier that day. This surely adds value to this stall.

My Dinner @ RM 5.50
After trying this dish, I would say that it was pretty decent, though not the best that I have tried. It still is nowhere close to the one in Kelana Jaya which I have blogged on sometime before. The curry here is lighter and a little more oily, yet rich in spices. The Tofu's, Fish Balls, Fu Choks were all fresh. There was also a strong taste of black pepper in the gravy used. Overall it was pretty decent but I would only rate this dish at 6/10 . The curry can still be greatly improved, it was a little too salty for me and it would have been much better if potatoes were used in the curry which would have given it a thicker and starchier taste. However, the price here is quite cheap. As you can see for the amount of items that I have added into my dish, it cost me a mere RM 5.50 .
